Save the Date–Saturday, January 28, 2012–and help determine the future of the Beekman House!
Join us on Saturday, January 28, at 10 a.m. in the Naversen Room of the Jacksonville Library (340 West C Street) for an organizational meeting of the Friends of the Beekman House. The Friends group will be shaping the future of this historic Jacksonville home as part of the Jacksonville Heritage Society, a 501(c)3 non-profit.
Are you interested in participating in these efforts? Can you help with fundraising? Do you have ideas for programming? Are you willing to be a docent? Do you have construction skills that can address maintenance issues? If so, then the Friends need you!
The Beekman House was the home of Jacksonville’s wealthiest pioneer family and is one of the very few historic residences in the U.S. that remains intact with family furnishings and artifacts. However, the House currently costs over $700 each month just to “keep the lights on”–utilities, security, insurance, etc. Much needed deferred maintenance and restoration work adds thousands of dollars to the challenge.
To ensure that this unique landmark remains a Southern Oregon treasure accessible to residents and visitors alike, we need your participation, enthusiasm, support, and skills.
This initial meeting will combine the basics of forming a Friends group with brainstorming sessions to identify next steps, resources, time tables, and individuals willing to help with implementation.
This is your opportunity to make sure that our history remains relevant and available for generations to come!
If you plan to attend this organizational meeting or would like to be involved in future Beekman House activities, please let us know by e-mailing jvilleheritage@aol.com or calling me at 541-245-3650.
Thank you!
