Joyfull Living – April 2018

For thousands of years, people of India and Asian countries have known the benefits of drinking water from Copper Vessels because of its many health benefits, especially its antibacterial property. I learned this practice from a teacher who was an Ayurvedic doctor. Ayurveda medicine is an integrative approach to health that treats the whole person: physical, psychological, social and spiritual well-being. JoyFull Yoga is also based on these principles to restore balance and well-being.

Why Drink out of a copper vessel?—Ayurveda states that water stored in a copper vessel overnight (10 to 16 hours), becomes positively charged. This therapeutic copper water, called Tamra jal in Sanskrit, (tamara: copper and jal: water), is anti-bacterial and anti-viral, so it’s a great way to improve the quality of your tap water. Also important to ancient yogis was the fact the Tamra Jal balances the three doshas in your body helping to restore balance in your body, mind and spirit. Ancient yogis typically drank Tamra jal first thing in the morning to balance the three doshas (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha) and restore balance in body, mind and spirit.

Many recent medical studies are supporting the principles of this practice mostly because copper has a sterilizing effect and effectively kills bacteria, viruses and fungi. Recently, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency registered copper as the only solid surface material to kill health-threatening bacteria. Research conducted by Southampton University in the U.K., showed that MRSA microbes remain alive on stainless steel surfaces for up to three days, whereas the same microbes on a copper surface are eliminated within 90 minutes.

How Water Is Transformed in a Copper Vessel—Copper is slightly soluble in water so when water is stored in a copper vessel for over eight hours, a very small amount of copper ions get dissolved into the water. It is important to not abuse this amazing water. Drinking 1 to 3 cups a day is all you need. I like to have one in the morning and one at night.

Benefits of Tamra jal (Copper H2O)

For your BODY—Copper is an essential trace mineral that sustains life. It helps your body absorb iron to make red blood cells and keeps nerve cells and your immune system healthy. It also helps form collagen, a key part of bones and connective tissue which helps prevent premature aging. Copper may also act as an antioxidant, reducing free radicals that can damage cells and DNA, which promotes longevity.

According to Ayurveda, drinking Tamra jal, helps with the respiratory system, inflammation, spleen, and is also helpful for the protection of the skeletal, nervous, and cardiovascular systems. It can also help clear the intestinal wall & has healing benefits on the gut.

For your Mind—Copper is a conductor and is known metaphysically to amplify your thoughts and increase your ability to tap into your intuition. Scientifically, studies have shown a direct link between copper’s content within the brain and enhanced creative thinking, showing that it enables new neural pathways to develop which helps with creative thoughts and problem solving.

For your Spirit—Energetically, copper is known to reduce negativity in the mind, stimulate and clear blocks and enhance your overall spiritual well-being.

Metaphysically, copper is known to have a grounding effect, which can be beneficial, specifically for the lower chakras (root, sacral & navel) which relates to the physiology of the lower abdomen. With its healing properties on the heart, lung, thyroid and brain, it helps balance the upper chakras (Heart, Throat, Mind & Crown.) Drinking copper water is also an action that can support your commitment to your healing intentions. I recommend you use a positive affirmation like: “I am clearing negativity and restoring balance in my mind, body and spirit now. Thank You.”

Your copper vessel is best used with water only. Since I still like to drink lemon water in the morning, I pour my copper water in a glass with fresh lemon juice. One or two days a week, I drink just copper water. When I travel, I like taking my copper vessel with me to transform the city tap water in most hotels into healthy, clean, healing water.

It is important that you use good quality copper vessels not lined with stainless steel. I found some beautiful high-quality ones on my last buying trip and you can find them at Pico’s in Jacksonville or online at www.picosworldwide.com.

I am so excited to share this simple and amazing health regimen that I am giving you a 20% off coupon for you through April online or at the store (COPPER20).

Care Tips: Your copperware will last a lifetime if you take care of it. Wash by hand (no dishwasher.) Use an e-cloth-for daily cleaning-they are on sale at Pico’s this month.
