Focus on the Farm – April 2021

Hanley Farm’s 2021 signature spring event, the Annual Heritage Plant Sale, will be held LIVE at Hanley Farm! Admission is free. The sale will be setup much in the manner as the 2020 Wreath-Making event—tables will be safely distanced from one another, COVID-19 protocols will be observed and you must wear a mask.

On April 24 & 25, from 11:00am to 4:00pm, the Heritage Plant Sale is open to the public. On April 24, from 10:00am to 11:00am, there will be a members-only presale. Join us, choose from hundreds of heritage plants, and plant a piece of history in your garden!

This year’s special is the Iris in many colors, shapes and sizes! Other plant selections include lilacs, peonies, pioneer yellow roses, columbine, poppies, snowberry bushes, Oregon grape and Oregon Myrtle trees, anemone, snow bells, hellebores, winter aconite, herbs including parsley, rosemary and thyme and food plants like rhubarb, strawberries and fig trees, pollinators, deer-resistant and drought-tolerant plants, and tomatoes and pepper plants, too!

The raffle item this year is a two-square-foot wall of succulents ready to hang. Tickets are $2 or 3 for $5 and you don’t need to be present to win.

Windows in Time—The Old Wood House: The History Conservation of a Regional Icon—Marvin Sylvester Wood settled in the Rogue Valley in 1868 and, in 1870, filed a land patent to establish a homestead, the Wood House, just north of Eagle Point. April’s WIT guest speaker, Skip Geear, will share the history and conservation of this historic home. Skip and his wife, Charlotte, have been involved with the Wood House since 2000 as members of the Eagle Point Historical Society. When the Society was dissolved in 2008, they and their daughter, Becky, formed the Wood House Preservation Group.

Jointly sponsored by the Southern Oregon Historical Society and Jackson County Library Services, Windows in Time lunchtime series are free, and feature well-known writers and historians. The April 7, noon-1:00pm presentation takes place remotely, via Zoom. Register for this event at jcls.libcal.com/event/7382594. When you register, Zoom meeting details will be emailed to you.
