The Park Enhancement Committee (PEC) is part of the non-profit A Greater Applegate (formerly GACDC and now AGA), and provides various types of educational, artistic, and practical enhancements; and restoration/ habitat improvements at Cantrall Buckley Park.

Historically, the park land was purchased and developed in the 1960’s by Jackson County. In 1997 when the County budget was reduced, the park was to close, and the local community formed the non-profit Greater Applegate Community Development Corporation (GACDC) and managed the park until January 2018, when Jackson County resumed operations.

The PEC members are all volunteers from the community with all levels of skills helping with clean-ups, improving habitat, and planning and working on new projects. The AGA approves and supports these enhancement projects and helps PEC to fundraise. PEC works closely with Jackson County Parks in making these projects a reality.

This spring, $51,000 was raised from local donors for an art sculpture walk which features native plants and birds being created by Jacksonville metal artist Cheryl D. Garcia, with completion expected in 2020.

This fall, our Solar Education Site will be complete with a solar array that was installed by True South through a Blue Sky grant. Soon, a large sundial built by community volunteers will be ready for use.

We are seeking more volunteers and donations to support projects in the park—please contact greaterapplegate@gmail.com or Janis Mohr-Tipton 541-846-7501.
