News From Britt Hill – September 2021
It’s been an incredible summer so far with two amazing Britt Festival Orchestra experiences—the world premiere of Brush: Music in the Woodlands and Ellen Reid SOUNDWALK. We’ve also “Come Together” for seven concerts in our Britt Presents series so far. It’s hard to believe kids are already back in school!
With 10 more shows left, the remainder of the Britt season has music from each decade going back to the 60s. Every generation can enjoy the Britt Experience! September launches with three shows in a row.
On September 1st, Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo are running with the shadows of Britt summer nights, bringing us music from the 80s and 90s. Portugal. The Man joins us September 2nd with their music from the 2000s and 2010s. Gratefully, Chicago returns to us, after last year’s season cancellation, on September 3rd. Most of their albums came out in the 70s and 80s, but they even dipped their toe in the 90s. Those of you who held onto your tickets from last year don’t need to worry about this show selling out.
The second week of the month, you can catch a wave as you’re sitting on top of the hill with The Beach Boys. They released their first album in 1962, then showed us they still had it in the late 80s with Kokomo. And for the first time ever, those wild-eyed Southern boys of the 70s and 80s land in Jacksonville. 38 Special makes their Britt debut on September 10th.
Conversely, Michael Franti & Spearhead are about to play their 15th Britt season in a row! They’ve played over 20 shows in Southern Oregon and become a staple of the Britt family.
While a typical Britt Music & Arts Festival runs June through mid-September, we all know this year (and last year) is anything but typical. Our final four shows fall between September 19th and October 7th.
These include our only stand-up comedy for the season, Nikki Glaser; long-time Britt friend, Chris Isaak; almost-sold-out country artist (might be sold-out at the printing of this issue), Lee Brice; and back for the first time since 2013, Shakey Graves. His blend of blues, folk, country, and rock and roll will wrap up the festival.
After letting the ground lay fallow for well over a year, it’s been much needed therapy to enjoy the Britt Experience again. Our community has Come Together this summer to partake in the best medicine in the world—music on the hill!
Britt Mask Policy
Due to the recent surge of COVID-19 hospitalizations in southern Oregon, effective immediately, Britt Music & Arts Festival Requires Mask Wearing for all patrons when not consuming food or beverages. Masks should cover the nose and mouth with no gaps. Masks will be provided by Britt upon request.
