Focus on Hanley Farm – June 2018

Despite occasional downpours, we had a terrific turnout at our annual Heritage Plant Sale. Intrepid gardeners arrived early each day to find that perfect piece of history to add to their landscape. There were as many as 50 different varieties of plants to choose from, including purple and lavender lilacs, peonies, flowering quince, iris and daylilies, hellebores and sweet little snow drops that bloom. Our volunteer growers provided tomato and pepper plants. Visitors also took wagon rides, visited the Shakespeare and Faerie gardens, and enjoyed great food provided by OSU Master Food Preservers. All-in-all, it was a super, two days at the farm!

Summer Sunday Afternoons at Hanley Farm—Throughout the summer months, until September 2, the farm is open every Sunday afternoon for family fun, house and garden tours, children’s activities, and leisurely Sunday afternoon picnicking. In addition to children’s activities and tours, every Sunday there will be a different vendor, artist, storyteller, etc. We guarantee you will always enjoy a Sunday afternoon at Hanley Farm! The farm is open Sunday afternoons, noon-4:00pm, and house tours are 1:00-3:00pm. Admittance is free, and Hanley House tours are $5 for adults and $3 for SOHS Members & Children.

Living History DaysThe Cascade Civil War Society has teamed with the Southern Oregon Historical Society to present “Living History Days” at Hanley Farm. Experience 19th century life through hands-on activities; conversations with historical characters dressed in authentic costumes, characters who have never heard of cell phones, Nike shoes or Coca-Cola; and Hanley Farmhouse tours, including a special exhibit of firearms owned by early Jacksonville settlers. Plus, blacksmithing demonstrations, wagon rides, heritage games, and more! July 7 & 8 the fun begins at 11:00am and ends when the farm closes at 4:00pm. Admission prices are $7 for adults, $4 for SOHS Members & Children, 6-12years, and $2 for Hanley House Tours.

Annual Music FestivalOn September 8, the farm presents their second annual music festival, “Bluegrass Promenade,” celebrating music from Irish, Scotch and English folk traditions. The event will feature the best of bluegrass classic and contemporary sounds from these popular groups—Rainy & the Rattlesnakes, Walking Hazel, and the Siskiyou Summit. There will even be an old-fashioned hoedown at the end of the evening!

Windows in Time Series—Gone Beneath the Waters: Lost Creek Lake Villages—Explore the area beneath Lost Creek Lake!
