Earthquake & the Applegate: What to Expect When the Great Oregon Quake Occurs
An earthquake of magnitude 8 to 9 is projected for the Cascade Subduction Zone and it will affect the entire state, including our area. There will be damage to infrastructure—electricity, roads, bridges—that will take weeks or months to repair.
Be informed! This event will include presentations on: how and why such an earthquake, centered off the coast, is likely to affect us; and on preparedness for the long haul, what help we can expect when, plans for evacuation if necessary, and how neighbors can work together in such an emergency. Each brief presentation will be followed by time for Q & A. Afterwards info tables will offer more details, and refreshments will be served.
Speakers will include Mark Prchal on geological aspects, Sandy Shaffer on neighborhood organization, Brett Fillis and Carey Chaput from our Applegate Valley Fire District 9, and Sara Rubrecht from Jackson County Emergency Management. Michelle Taylor, Disaster Program Manager for the American Red Cross, will be present to answer questions and distribute information.
