Dolores Evers, better known as “Dee” to her many friends and acquaintances, passed away from natural causes on July 16, 2022 at the age of 92 at her home in Medford, Oregon. She was surrounded by loving friends and family and the caring staff of Northridge Senior Living. Dee was born in Brooklyn, New York. She graduated from Saint Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing in NYC. Her vast nursing career included being a school nurse, public health nurse, teacher, as well as developing her own business called Dee Evers and Associates which provided continuing education for nurses in the San Diego area. She later became the Assistant Director of Nursing at Children’s Hospital in San Diego and UC San Diego followed by becoming the Director of Nursing at Clemson University in South Carolina.
She was honored in 1991 by receiving the award for Holistic Nurse of the year by the American Holistic Nurses Association. She was truly an innovative, resourceful and inspired professional. After retiring, she enjoyed volunteering for various organizations offering her capable skills and bright, vivacious personality. She also discovered her hidden talent for art and took up watercolor painting, collages and “altered books” and became involved in local art groups and shows.
Dee loved her family and friends (and her canines!), traveling, music, dancing, art, and the ocean. She traveled to many countries and lived in several beautiful places in her lifetime, mainly in California, New Mexico, South Carolina and Oregon. Wherever she lived she created a community of friends to enjoy life with, whether it be a potluck or wine and cheese on her deck or a good game of pinochle or scrabble. Dee was a very creative, giving woman that cherished good conversation and laughs. She would be the first to say that she enjoyed a very full life and had many wonderful experiences. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. Dee is survived by her older sister, younger brother, daughter, grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
As Dee would say, “Enjoy life, this is NOT a rehearsal!” A celebration of her life will be held on October 15th at 3pm in the Royal Mobile Estates club house, 1055 N 5th St. in Jacksonville.
