Curious Kids Can Learn All About Meteorites & More!
December 14 is Kids Day at Crater Rock Museum and is the perfect time for them to learn all about meteorites. Have they ever marveled at shooting stars and asked what they are and where they came from? During this info-packed day, they’ll learn that “falling stars” are bits of interplanetary rock and debris, traveling at tens of thousands of miles an hour and are called meteoroids. And those not destroyed before they reach earth are called meteorites. Your kids will be able to hold one of these stones in their hand–perhaps it’ll be from Mars or another galaxy!
In addition to learning all about meteorites, our ROCK YARD will be open, weather permitting, to rock hounds of all ages who want to find petrified wood, agates, jasper, obsidian, and many other great rocks. (Just 25 cents per pound.) Although the classes are geared to elementary school-aged children, all ages are welcome. Admission: Children, FREE! Adults $5; Seniors $3.
Crater Rock Museum is located at 2002 Scenic Avenue in Central Point. For more ind, contact Karen Rogers at krogers1952@me.com, Pam Sasseen at 541-608-8091 or Crater Rock Museum at 541-664-6081.
