Thanks to a new agreement with Vintage Inns, owner of the McCully House Inn, Cricket Hill Winery has opened a new tasting room in Jacksonville. “We know many of our McCully House guests consider the wine experience a major draw of their stay in Jacksonville. To satisfy those needs, we are thrilled to have Cricket Hill, one of Southern Oregon’s favorite wine brands, as a part of the unique experience we can offer to our guests,” said Vintage Inns owner Carl Johnson.
Cricket Hill Winery owner and winemaker Duane Bowman also has vineyards and a tasting room located in the Applegate Valley—a traditional French winery that for 27 years has produced premium quality Right Bank Bordeaux-styled wines. All wines offered at both tasting rooms are made exclusively from grapes grown on their estate vineyard in the Applegate Valley.
The shared philosophy of enhancing visitor enjoyment by offering luxury accommodations and unique winery experiences is what brought Johnson and Bowman together. The new Cricket Hill tasting room and the relationship with the McCully House Inn will mean increased scale and grandeur to expose more people to these remarkable wines. Guests to the Jacksonville tasting room will also enjoy the interior ambiance of the inn and will delight in the exquisite exterior gardens and outdoor tasting patio, as well.
For decades, Cricket Hill Winery has been considered a pioneer winery in Southern Oregon. Established in 1991 on a carefully-researched hillside, it enjoys the singular combination of climate, soils, and slopes needed to grow Grand Cru quality grapes in the Applegate Valley. Bowman says, “After years of visits to Bordeaux, this tiny winery decided to follow the French tradition of specializing to produce only one type of wine—premium wines of exceptional character made only from Merlot and Cabernet Franc grapes.”
