May 22, 1922 – June 22, 2019
Constance Thompson Bohn Borntraeger, “Connie,” age 97, of Jacksonville, passed away at the Holmes House in Medford on June 22, 2019 following a fall and a brief hospital stay.
Connie was born on Long Island, NY to father, Tillman G. Thompson and mother Sarah Corwith Thompson. She called Bellport her hometown and lived there until after her retirement. She attended Bellport schools and New Paltz State Teachers College. She then joined the US Navy, “coding and decoding” until WWII ended.
In 1946 she married Harold N. Bohn, a ship-captain. They raised three children, Karen, David and Signa. Harold passed away in 1967. Connie returned to teaching after attending Queens College to earn her Master’s degree. For many years she was a Bellport school librarian and later she worked for the Patchogue Public Library. In 1970 she married Henry W. Borntraeger of Pittsburgh, PA. She gained three more (adult) children, Bill, Carl and Maeva.
Eventually, Connie and Henry retired to Medford Leas, in Medford, NJ, and after Henry passed away in 2002, Connie moved to Jacksonville to live near her younger daughter and her family.
Connie loved living in Jacksonville – she said it reminded her of Bellport. She played bridge, tended her home garden, became a Master Gardener and volunteered many hours in Jacksonville’s Senior Thrift Store, Library and Cemetery.
Son, David, passed away in 1974. She leaves two daughters: Karen Bohn of Spotsylvania, VA and Signa Hillis (Chris) of Jacksonville and two grandsons: Peter Hillis (Kimi) and Sean Hillis (Bre) of Portland.
Thank you to all who loved her over the years: her extended Borntraeger family, and Jacksonville friends and neighbors.
A Celebration of Life will be held on September 7, 2-5pm at 325 Gold Terrace, Jacksonville. For more information, call Signa Hillis at 541-846-6161.
