COMMUNITY RALLIES BEHIND GM
They say “it takes a village” to raise a child. But who thought “it takes a community” to combat cancer?
Greg Mills is a believer. Mills, who is the son of Jacksonville’s David and Janice Mills, was an active husband, father and General Manager of Airport Chevy when he was diagnosed with cancer last November. To be frank, it didn’t look good for the young professional.
But since the diagnosis the Southern Oregon community has rallied behind Mills as he undergoes numerous tests, surgeries and treatments in his fight against cancer. Of course first there were family and friends of Mills whose support helped him through his first procedure (portal vein embolization) at the Oregon Health Science University (OHSU) in Portland.
Then there were the “Mills Militia” who are a “Relay For Life” team created in Mill’s honor to raise funds for the American Cancer Society. Their numerous fund raising efforts will help others cancer victims become cancer survivors.
Most recently there was a blood drive held on Mill’s behalf for the American Red Cross. Many family, friends, employees and others donated their own blood out of respect for Mill’s fight.
Mills faces his most serious challenge May 10th when he takes another trip up to OHSU to have over ½ of his liver removed. But he won’t be alone; on Wednesday, May 9 at 10:30am a large group of Mill’s friends, family and employees of Airport Chevy, Southern Oregon Subaru and TC Chevy will hold a supportive “send-off” for their stricken leader.
And last, but not certainly least, is the community leader Mills himself. His optimistic outlook, energy and faith makes a positive statement in the community he serves during his selfless fight against cancer.
Greg’s a great guy and has a great family. He has had our support from the beginning .
Greg’s boundless energy and positive attitude, coupled with the positive thoughts from hundreds of friends and family are definitely making a difference in his battle.
You are so right!
