The community is invited to attend the first meeting of a newly-formed group, Citizens for a Safer Jacksonville, which is hoping to stop the speeders. The meeting will be on Wednesday, May 24, 4:30-6:00pm, at the Naversen Room at the Jacksonville Library. The focus is currently on the speeding and safety issues facing pedestrians in Jacksonville.
Members of the City Council and staff are expected to be in attendance along with representatives of the police department, who are working closely with group leaders to identify, prioritize and develop safe and affordable solutions.
If you want to join the endeavor, have ideas about traffic safety to share, or find out more, please attend this meeting, designed as a Q & A between the community and our elected officials to increase understanding and leading to an action plan of solutions.
For questions, please contact Cindy Rasmussen at 510-406-3954, or email her at oregongal@me.com or call Debra Herriott at 641-841-1444.
Hopefully action will be taken, I wish I could attend the meeting, I live on G St. I am a disabled senior and travel around Jacksonville on my mobility scooter. I have many times had to wait at the marked crosswalks, to get across the street, but far worse, I have had people actually go around me when I was in the middle of the crosswalk. I drove for many years and was on conscious and considerate of those needing to cross. I have nearly been hit 3 times, when crossing, the traffic had stopped for me, when the driver that had been waiting to pull onto the street pulled out and around onto the street. NO one needs to be in that much of a hurry. THANK YOU for taking action…. Alene Smalley
