The City of Jacksonville is currently recruiting volunteers to serve on a five-member Citizen Advisory Committee (CAC) to review and edit proposed revisions to the Jacksonville Land Development Code with possible amendments to the Comprehensive Plan to ensure consistency between the documents.
The current Development Code is long overdue for an update. With inconsistencies that lead to confusion among the public, practitioners, staff, and the hearing bodies responsible for its administration, the goal of this project is to improve and clarify regulations that guide development within the city while continuing to protect Jacksonville’s status as a National Historic Landmark. The Development Code provides essential guidelines for modifications to existing structures, new construction, the division of land, and, perhaps most importantly, guidelines for protecting historic resources.
The CAC will examine and revise as necessary the previous draft code that were presented to the community in 2016-2017. The CAC will also carefully review the testimony that was garnered from the public hearings from January and February of 2017. The CCI will provide a liaison to the new CAC and assist them in gaining access to any needed materials as well as expert resources. Throughout the revision process, the Office of Planning, the CCI and the CAC will jointly host a number of community meetings to ensure the public has numerous opportunities to share their input and to stay informed.
To learn more about serving on the CAC, or this project in general, please join the CCI and Planning Department for a kickoff event on Thursday, December 12, 5:30-7:00pm, Old City Hall.
If you are interested in applying for the CAC, please contact the Planning Office at 541-899-6873. A full scope of work and application are available on the City’s website: www.Jacksonvilleor.us, or you can pick one up in person at the City offices.
