City Council Meeting 10/4/22—Prior to the official start of the meeting, City Recorder Angela Watson swore-in Andy Hellenthal, who was selected to fill the remaining term of Councilor Jim Lewis. Hellenthal, a current candidate for City Council, will fill Lewis’ seat until the 2023 council is sworn-in in early January.

Mayor Bowen introduced Jullie Flenner, the city’s new Public Works staffer and Assistant Finance Director. During Public Comment, residents on East California Street expressed thanks for the “Your Speed Is” signs that are working to decrease traffic speeds. Council interviewed and appointed Wes Greene to the Committee for Citizen Involvement and then approved a large event permit package, allowing the Chamber of Commerce to conduct its Haunted Trolley Tour event. Council appointed Mike McClain to the Personnel Committee and appointed Andy Hellenthal as Council Liaison to the Historic Architecture Review Commission.

Administrator Jeff Alvis briefed Council on the status of the new fire hall, noting that it’s very close to opening. A Public Open House and Formal Opening Ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, November 19, 10am-2pm. This event will be catered by Las Palmas.
