Have you ever been out for a walk with friends or your dog, or gone out to pick up the mail, or put your trash out—only to have a vehicle whiz past you going way too fast? A scary moment, yes? Well, this is happening much too often in our sweet little town…it’s time to stop the speeders!
A growing group of concerned residents feel it’s time to act. We believe there are several potential solutions, some of which do not require enormous expense. We recognize that while Jacksonville has a limited budget and a small Police Department, we must create more awareness of the worrisome danger of speeding and work together with law enforcement and the City Council to enforce speed limits and protect our citizens and wildlife.
As spring and summer approach, we have a significant increase in traffic. The wonderful Britt Festival, wine events, etc. bring in many visitors to our town. While we support and encourage the many visitors who come and enjoy our welcoming hospitality and activities, we must always put public safety first.
We have sign-up sheets in support of this effort and hope you will sign up to indicate you stand with us!
Please contact any one of us to sign our support sheets…we welcome your ideas and interest in joining Citizens for a Safer Jacksonville:

Signing up is great but what are you proposing as changes? Speeds are posted, there are some flashing speed signs, our police officers do not let people slide as I see people pulled over all the time. I’ve been here 31 years and most people are very courteous and the few who are not usually get busted sooner than later. What more are you proposing and how will it be paid for?
A set of those rubber type speed bumps. One set by the Chevron station and one set over on Oregon just as you come into town and it becomes Oregon from Old Stage Rd. Can’t help but slow them down and once slowed, more chance they will keep their speed slower.
Not sure what we can do or what will be done with this effort. Over the 38 years I’ve been here I have motioned to people to “slow down” only to have them stop, get out and yell at me to mind my own business. So frustrating. The flashing speed limit signs seem to be effective but after a while people ignore those as well. Speed bumps on Applegate close to Graham would be nice, cars coming down that hill are easily doing 45 in a 25mph zone. People only forget speed bumps once😊.
