My View – March 2022
I’m deviating from my normal column to bring you the latest news from the Jacksonville business community. At this writing, more than a dozen local businesses are shifting focus, owners and locations—here they are, in no particular order in Our Small Town with Big Atmosphere!
Kubli Haus—After a major renovation by Kathleen Dunn, the famed house at 305 S. Oregon is re-opening in April with 4 overnight suites with a luxury, boutique-hotel vibe. A community open house is planned for March 30, 3-6pm.
Oregon Cowgirl—Located at 660 N. 5th Street, this western-themed gift shop caters to the modern and traditional cowgirl and horse lover with jewelry, apparel, accessories and photography.
Remotion—Locals, Ben and Lori Grable, are opening a wine tasting room at the former Quady North tasting room. Herb Quady built a new tasting room at his Applegate Valley vineyard site.
Happy Alpaca—Amy Kranenburg purchased Scheffel’s Toys and the historic building and is reopening Happy Alpaca Toys & Supply in May. She’ll carry high-quality toys, children’s clothing, books and baby gear.
Farmhouse Treasures/Pickety Place—Patti Keck has closed Farmhouse Treasures—the famous fudge is now at Violets & Cream. Margaret Barnes re-opened Pickety Place Antiques in the spot, offering an assortment of collectibles. The former site of Pickety Place on N. 3rd Street will now house a plant shop and a collectibles shop.
Jacksonville Review—Publisher Whit Parker made the move to a full-time home office. Awen Winecraft will be opening its tasting room in the spot. Awen’s space in the annex of the McCully House will become a new restaurant/pub.
Terra Firma/Calathea—Sarah Woodbury purchased Terra Firma Gift from Mark & Krissy Milner and has re-named it Calathea, offering an extensive line of gifts and home décor.
State Farm Insurance/J’Ville Chiro Clinic—Judi Johnson moved her State Farm Insurance agency to a Nunan Square office suite on “G” Street. Jason and Jacque Williams purchased her 645 N. 5th Street building and are remodeling it for their Jacksonville Chiropractic & Massage Clinic, expanding treatment rooms.
Umpqua Bank/People’s Bank—After the closing of Umpqua Bank in late 2021, People’s Bank purchased the property and is opening a branch office by March 1.
Insurance Center—George and Debbie Wheeler sold the business to their son, George, Jr. and his wife, Amy. The couple plan to continue the family tradition!
Boho Bootik—Natalie Anderson has opened her new shop next door to Ramsay Realty in the space formerly occupied by Zuzu’s Petals. The store carries an eclectic and most-interesting array of gift items and cherished collectibles from her travels.
