My View – June 2020
After a two-month print hiatus, it’s great to get back to semi-normal life with this “recovery/re-HOPE-ening” issue. Like you, the corona virus has changed my life and nothing will ever be the same. At this writing, state officials have “unlocked” Jackson County under a Phase One “reopening” of our economy—at the same time as national health experts warn of jumping the gun. No matter your view, we need to do what’s best to get to “the other side” of Covid 19, together.
We know Jacksonville is full of selfless volunteers who work for the benefit of others—it’s a part of our DNA. Despite a few tough months, I’ve heard heartwarming stories and witnessed acts of kindness including neighbors sewing facemasks and gifting them to neighbors, friends helping those at-risk by running simple errands, doing food shopping for vulnerable residents and taking pets to veterinarian appointments…and more good deeds. If so inclined, please share your stories with us as suggested below and help shed light on those deserving givers.
As you already know, our local economy is in “re-start” mode and facing a bleak tourist season with the cancellation of events including the 2020 Britt Festival and OSF seasons. As such, there’s never been a better time to support LOCAL businesses by spending your dollars here—doing so might make THE difference for the economic health and survival of Our Small Town with Big Atmosphere!
