This coming weekend, November 7th and 8th, 2015 – adult cats at three local animal shelters will be free. All adoption fees will be waived at this Catstravaganza event for all adult cats one year or older. All adult cats will be fully vaccinated and spayed or neutered. Many will be micro-chipped. Criteria for qualified adopters will remain the same.
Once again, local animal shelters are overflowing with adult cats, after what has been an unusually warm kitten season that still persists. Jackson County Animal Services, SoHumane.org, and Sanctuary One have a total of 75 adult among their three facilities, and shelter staff hope they will all find homes this weekend. In spite of crowded conditions this summer, due to the increased intake of too many kittens, shelter employees continued saving lives by keeping these adoptable adult cats healthy, even as they got passed over for younger kittens. Now it’s up to the community to help get these beautiful adult cats out of kennels and into homes, which will make room for more kittens and adult cats that will soon be coming in!
SHELTER LOCATIONS:

Unfortunately, adopting homeless cats and kittens only treats the symptoms. The high numbers of cats and kittens which enter our shelters every year are the result of cat owners and well-meaning citizens who fail to spay and neuter the cats and kittens they feed. Studies show that one mating can result in thousands of cats and kittens in just a handful of years.
To address the cause, pet owners need to spay and neuter their pets. Contact SNYP at 541-858-3325 or online at www.spayneuter.org to learn more about their ongoing programs, and the Feral Fixathon high volume cat spay/neuter clinic happening later in November.
Catstravaganza will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, November 7th and 8th, at each of the three shelters. No kittens will be available for free, but will be available for adoption at regular fees.
