Britt announces its new slate of summer camps and workshops, including two new programs with an innovative approach to learning music. The new programs are the Ukelele Getaway, from July 5-7, and a camp that offers a modern approach to chamber music called Project: Beyond the Page, from August 12-17. Britt will also offer the popular camp Rock Camp for its third year, from June 17-22.

“We’re delighted to offer fresh new programs that specifically serve our local community,” says Britt’s Director of Education and Community Engagement Rachel Jones. “This year’s summer camps span a wide range of musical genres, and have offerings for complete beginners and very advanced players, for children and adults. It’s an exciting direction that provides opportunities for anyone and everyone to experience the joy of making music.”

The Ukulele Getaway, from July 5-7, is designed to make participants feel like they’re on a vacation, without ever leaving the Rogue Valley. The workshop is open to anyone, regardless of experience, even those who have never picked up a musical instrument. It will include workshops for beginning, intermediate and advanced players. The Getaway is also open to all ages, 6 through adult (children under 12 must be accompanied by a parent). Participants will finger-pick, strum, write, jam and, most of all, make music.

Project Trio

The second new program is Project: Beyond the Page, a week-long camp dedicated to blurring the lines of classical music, from August 12-17. Featuring the innovative chamber ensemble Project Trio, who performed at Britt in October, this camp will build on the faculty’s “F.I.R.E. Technique” (Fundamentals of Improvisation, Rhythm and Ensemble).  The camp is open to students playing any acoustic instrument, ages 8-18. Students must have two years of instrument instruction.

Finally, Britt offers the return of Rock Camp on June 17-22. The camp will be led by the L.A-based independent band Raining Jane, who returns for the second year as faculty. Rock Camp is open to students ages 13-18, of all experience levels, including beginners. Students will gain hands-on experience in instrument instruction, songwriting, sound systems and band dynamics.

All three programs are open to applicants now. For more information on the programs, tuition costs, application requirements, financial aid information and more, visit the Britt web site at www.brittfest.org/summercamps.

Britt Festivals invites audiences and artists to celebrate the joy of live performance, the power of community and the magic of the Britt Experience.
