Art in the Library presents a showing of oil paintings by local artist, Bill Stanton in the Naverson Room from May 30th to the end of August. Please call the library for hours.
Bill Stanton, a long-time resident of Jacksonville and well-known artist who paints rich landscapes in oils with a thick textural quality, learned to paint from his grandparents at an early age, both of whom were professional painters.
“My grandmother taught me watercolors and my grandfather taught me oils I have been painting ever since, and have worked in watercolors, acrylics, and oils but in the last few years I have done mainly oils.
My painting style is reminiscent of the impressionists and I use the impasto technique in most of my work. The depth and visceral quality of this technique gives my paintings the richness that I desire.”
I have a painting my grand mom had in her house, she passed alone time ago, sound like it might be one of ours. I would like to know. It is signed Stanton in the bottom right corner in black. Large oil based thick. Landscape of green trees with snow capped mountain in the back.
