A 10am tour of Jacksonville’s pioneer cemetery will focus on the “Rogue River Indian Wars” and the natives and settlers who fought them. Town historian Larry Smith will offer “Behind the Counter” tours of the 1863 Beekman Bank, the second oldest bank in the Pacific Northwest, at 11:15am, 12:15pm, 1:15pm, and 2:15pm. Then “Victorian Music and Literature” will be the theme at the 1873 Cornelius C. Beekman House, located at 470 E. California Street. House tours begin every 15 minutes between 12n and 4pm with Victorian costumed docents sharing information on the popular music and authors of the late 1800s. Hear about the Jacksonville Silver Cornet band, local dance halls and masquerade balls, reading circles, and early Jacksonville libraries. Listen to records on the Beekman Victrola, tunes on their Mathushek piano, and free music on the lawn!
Cemetery tours are free. Beekman Bank tours are $2. “Victorian Music and Literature” tours are $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and students; Beekman House lawn activities are free. For additional information, call 541-245-3650, or e-mail info@historicjacksonville.org.
