Our movie selection for August is On The Town. I generally try to run films which, in my opinion, have not been seen as often this one, but On The Town is such a happy-go-lucky motion picture, I felt it deserves a showing. We don’t use that phrase much anymore. Perhaps it’s because we are bombarded day and night with bad news. This is your chance to escape all that and relax for a couple of hours with a classic story of three sailors on leave in the big city… Manhattan in this case.
And what a cast… Frank Sinatra… Gene Kelly… Betty Garrett… Vera Ellen… Ann Miller… and a name you probably don’t know, but one of a fellow who could keep up with any of them. What a scene stealer… Jules Munshin.
Add to all this… “glorious Technicolor” in M.G.M.’s lingo, a musical score that zips along with the best of them, a story that moves without a slow spot, and you have one immensely enjoyable picture.
On The Town will screen at 7 PM on Friday, August 19th, 2016 at Old City Hall. Hope to see you there.
