Art Presence Art Center was created in 2013 when the Historic Society offered to lease the Old County Jail to a group of local artists. Our stated mission is to encourage and develop a growing and superior art presence in the City of Jacksonville; provide a venue for artists to facilitate personal artistic growth, recognition, and possible patronage; also to promote, inspire, educate and provide the tangible value and benefits that a center for the arts adds to its host community.
But Art Presence is much more than just an exceptional art gallery with over 30 juried member artists. As the name Art presence Art Center implies, we are also a center for all the arts. The center hosts and sponsors local artists, authors and musicians, book readings, musical performances, and frequently changing, seasonal exhibits. Our classrooms are the perfect spot for adults and children, cultural events, seasonal/holiday-themed events, classes, and participatory displays.
Relying on member support and occasional grant monies, Art Presence has been able to make some much-needed remodeling and repairs. But with a vision to future sustainability, we are specifically looking to add (1) “Friends of Art Presence” who will help support us financially and volunteer as docents and (2) Local businesses who can help to sponsor some of our exhibits throughout the year.
