State of the Art Presence – April 2024
April Guest Artist: Andre Satie – Tiny Pictures and More—April showers bring local painter and former Member Artist Andre Satie to the Art Presence Gallery with a retrospective of her career. She loves creating “Teeny Tiny Paintings” and works at larger sizes, presenting a unique and playful style that captures landscapes and scenes from daily life with pastels and acrylics.
This Talent artist grew up in her dad’s sign shop in the days of hand-lettered signage, and to this day, there are few aromas that she loves more than the smell of “turps.” Her first competition gained a “First” in oil, and “Best of show.” A few months later, a tiny 2″ silver sculpture mounted on a block of wood took 2nd in sculpture at the Monterey Jazz Festival. Feeling validated, Andre took the plunge onto the road marked “Artist” and never looked back. Today, after 60-some years with the brush, her happy place is still the studio. Her work can be found in collections around the globe, personal and corporate, in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Germany, Norway, Costa Rica, and Puerto Rico. Member Artist of the Month: Carol Branan—We’ll also shine a light on April Member Artist of the Month, Carol Branan. Carol is known throughout the valley for her whimsical, hand-painted lamps. We celebrate Branan’s fun and unique approach to lighting your home—you have to see them in person to experience just how fun they are.
Explore Your Creative Side—Try your own hand at making art while hearing about the process. On Saturday, April 20th, at 1:30pm, join us for “Color With Ginna Gordon: Year of The Dragon” in our upstairs classroom. Ginna will speak about illustrating the book, “Year of the Dragon,” by Debbie Chin and illustrated by Ginna. Coloring sheets of Ginna’s illustrations from the book and crayons or colored pencils will be provided for you.
Member Artists Selected for WSO Spring Show—We are so excited for two of our Member Artists! Deanna St. Martin and Sue Bennett have been juried into the Watercolor Society of Oregon Spring Show April 5-7 in Yachats, Oregon. Out of 322 submitted paintings, only 80 get juried in. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for both. The award jurying will be on April 4th.
