Tales from the Collections
Quilts tell many stories. They are the stories and memories and love, quilts made by women, mostly unnamed. Nell Mathern tells the history of quilts in Airing the Quilts: Stories from Quilts of the Rogue Valley on Saturday June 27, 2015 from 10a-noon at Southern Oregon Historical Society. This free program is the June event in the Tales from the Collections.
Quilts have a long history of not only being used for warmth, but are also works of art. Nell Mathern’s Airing the Quilts program is a unique way of telling the stories and history of quilts in a cozy kind of way. She’ll tell stories and describe techniques and history as lovely historical quilts are shown. Two unique and unusual quilts will also be on display, Grandmother Love’s white on white trapunto from the SOHS collection, and Ginger Roger’s award winning 1936 crazy quilt.
Join the Southern Oregon Historical Society for this special event, and bring your family quilts and your memories. SOHS has history, and so do you.
This Tales from the Collections event will be followed by a rare glimpse of the massive archives in a tour of the library. The SOHS library and archives will be open for free research from noon-2p. For more information, call 541-773-6536 x201.
About The Southern Oregon Historical Society: Since its inception in 1946, the Southern Oregon Historical Society has collected, preserved and shared photographs and documents that reflect the lives of Rogue Valley residents. The Archives include many pioneer stories, but also those of later settlers, and of people born and raised in the Valley. The mission of SOHS is to make history come alive by collecting, preserving, and sharing the stories and artifacts of our common heritage. For more information call, 541-773-6536 or www.sohs.org.
