OCTOBER IN JACKSONVILLE is pure magic. The maples and oaks turn gold, the air cools just enough to make a warm drink feel perfect, and our National Historic Landmark District glows in the kind of autumn light photographers dream about. This year, that beauty carries even deeper meaning as Jacksonville celebrates 60 years as a National Historic Landmark District—six decades of preservation, pride, and community stewardship. In Jacksonville, we don’t just visit history… we “Live the Landmark.”

On Saturday, October 10, from 10:30am-3pm, we officially open Jacksonville’s new History Center inside the beautifully restored 1881 Old City Hall. This is the hub of our “Citywide Museum,” the doorway into Jacksonville’s full story—from Indigenous history and the Gold Rush to the Chinese Quarter, civic life, and the preservation movement that saved the town. Step inside and explore interactive exhibits, touchable artifacts, AI narration, QR-linked stories, and the five themes that frame Jacksonville’s past: The Land, The Gold Rush, Merchants & Makers, Government, and Town Life. It’s the perfect way to begin your fall visit.

Live music all day long with afternoon and evening music venues, food and drink specials, a Scavenger hunt, a Historic Landmark Jubilee Passport for shopping discounts, and prize drawings round out the celebration. It’s a modern nod to Jacksonville’s 1932 and 1952 Jubilees—festive, historic, and uniquely Jacksonville.

Soup Stroll, October 17—Warm up with Jacksonville’s newest culinary tradition: the Soup Stroll, happening Saturday, October 17, from 11am–2pm. Local shops and restaurants will serve creative one ounce tastings of homemade soups—250 tickets available at the Odd Fellows, three gallons per contestant, and a whole lot of fun. Stroll, sip, shop, and vote for your favorite. The winning business earns the traveling trophy and bragging rights for the year.

Halloween Promenade, October 25—On Sunday, October 25, from noon–3pm, downtown transforms into a kid-friendly Halloween wonderland. Children 12 and under are invited to trick or treat at participating businesses. Costumes, candy, and community—an easy, joyful afternoon in one of Oregon’s most charming towns.

Everything Is Better on a Trolley—October also brings the magic of Jacksonville’s trolley system. Whether you’re enjoying History Tours, Wine Tours, or the special free Jubilee Trolley Tour during the Historic Landmark Jubilee celebration, the experience is unforgettable.
