Sipping & Playing in Jacksonville – March 2026
RIGHT IN THE HEART of downtown Jacksonville, South Stage Cellars feels like the kind of place you pop into for a quick glass and somehow end up staying all afternoon. Housed in a charming historic building dating back to 1865 and recognized as the oldest tasting room in Jacksonville, the space carries a sense of story and character that adds to its cozy appeal. It is warm, welcoming, and effortlessly relaxed. The kind of neighborhood spot where you run into friends, settle into a chair, and let the day slow down a little.
They pour their own wines, and the list is easy to love. They carry all the standard varietals with a few unique and lesser-known surprises mixed in. On the lighter side, try a Grenache Blanc or Pinot Blanc for something crisp and refreshing. If you lean toward reds, explore a Pinotage or Carmenere for a smooth, distinctive pour that feels just a little unexpected. It is the kind of list that invites you to try something new without feeling intimidated.
South Stage is also one of my favorite family-friendly stops downtown. It is great to pop in between shopping or just for a fun afternoon out. The outdoor patio gives kids space to move while adults relax, which makes the whole experience feel easy and comfortable. Our kids are happy to sit at the tables with us and draw or snack or wander a bit when it is not busy without bothering anyone. When everyone is happy, you can actually enjoy what is in your glass.
Beyond the wine, they offer simple, delicious food that pairs beautifully with whatever is in front of you. Add in live local music and you have the perfect recipe for a fun, low-key night out. One of the first events we ever attended there with our neighbors was one of their Wine and Dine evenings, and I still remember how special it felt to enjoy a beautifully plated meal while listening to a great local musician just a few feet away. They host many wonderful events throughout the year, so it is worth checking their events page before you go. Reservations are highly recommended, especially on music nights.
Live music happens Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, 6-8pm, with extended hours until 8pm those evenings. Through spring they are open Wednesday through Sunday, 1-7pm, and beginning in May they are open daily, 1-7pm, making it an easy stop almost any day of the week. You can find them at 125 S. Third Street in downtown Jacksonville. Learn more at southstagecellars.com.
If you are strolling through town and looking for a cozy place to sip, snack, and stay awhile, South Stage Cellars is always a good idea.
