Kudos to Mayor Paul Becker and his crew of volunteers for a very successful First Annual July 4th Community Picnic (we hope it’s an annual tradition!). The event drew more than 300 people – we stopped counting at 2pm! With the spirited cooperation of the Boosters, Lyons, Rotary, Fire Department, City Staff, Jacksonville Heritage Society, and Art Presence, the Courthouse lawn was full of happy celebrants!

It was a wonderful and fun event. Mayor Becker, Jeff Alvis, and all those who helped pull it together did an outstanding job. I was so pleased that the turn out was outstanding given it was the first Community Get Together of this type in many. many years. I am sure that the Pioneers looking down from a near-by hill side, were very pleased that the 4th was celebrated with a great Community Spirit!
