My View – November 2026

WITH THE THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY approaching, we reflect on what makes Jacksonville such a special place to live, work, and gather. One thing is clear—our community thrives because of people who care. Beyond our historic buildings, beautiful trails, charming shops, and welcoming streets, it is the generosity of our neighbors and the dedication of our nonprofit organizations that truly enrich our quality of life.

Throughout the year, countless volunteers give their time, talents, and energy to make Jacksonville a better place for everyone. Historic Jacksonville, Inc. deserves special recognition for its work to open the new History Center, preserving and sharing the stories that connect us to our past. The Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce works tirelessly to support our business community while creating engaging events. The Jacksonville Woodlands Association and Forest Park volunteers help maintain miles of trails, for all to enjoy the natural beauty surrounding our town.

We are equally grateful for the Jacksonville Garden Club, Jacksonville Community Center, Art Presence Art Center, Jacksonville Boosters Club, and Friends of Jacksonville’s Historic Cemetery. Each contributes something unique, through beautification, cultural enrichment, community gathering places, and preservation of our heritage. Together, these organizations demonstrate that a strong community is built not by any one person or group, but by many hands working toward a shared purpose.

As publisher of the Jacksonville Review, I am also deeply thankful to our advertising clients, whose support provides the financial foundation for the Review. They enable us to share stories, events, and accomplishments that keep our community informed and connected. Please support these local businesses, whose investment in the Review is also an investment in Jacksonville.

To our readers, thank you for welcoming the Jacksonville Review into your home and supporting our mission of celebrating local life. To our volunteer contributors, thank you for sharing your knowledge, perspectives, and enthusiasm. Your words give voice to the people, places, and ideas that make our town distinctive. Finally, but most importantly, a huge thank you to our city staff, city councilors and committee members—and most especially to our police and fire professionals who keep us safe every day.

Living in a small town is a privilege, but it is also a responsibility. Join me in thanking and recognizing those who serve, and embrace a spirit of shared gratitude in Our Small Town with Big Atmosphere!
