My View – June 2026
THIS JUNE, you’ll find events for everyone in the family at every turn. As the temperature heats up outside, a plethora of events awaits in our historic landmark town.
At the top of the list, June 3 marks the kickoff of the Britt Music Festival with Bonnie Raitt playing to a sold-out hillside audience on June 3. From June 18 to July 3, Britt Hill will be home to the world-famous Britt Festival Orchestra, where new Music Director, Norman Huynh will conduct 100+ classical musicians for three weeks of not-to-be-missed concerts. If you haven’t seen the orchestra before, trust me—grab a ticket and go! Please see Britt CEO, Abby McKee’s column on page 4.
From June 19-21, awaken your sense of smell at the Southern Oregon Lavender Trail weekend tour of six farms—a treat you can also experience from July 10-12. Please read more about this sensory tour in Sue Owens’ piece on page 5.
Of course, as the center of the Southern Oregon wine scene, Jacksonville offers wine lovers a chance to taste some of the best wines here in town and nearby. With the Jacksonville Wine Trolley running daily, hop on and off the trolley as you wind your way through and around town with friends! Before heading out on the wine trolley, be sure to read part two of Sandra Colley’s column on Wine Basics on page 8.
For a completely new and unique experience, check out the Rat Route 238 – formerly the Rate Race from June 8-13. Paragliders and Hang Gliders from around the world will be launching from Woodrat Mountain in the Applegate Valley and filling the skies as they race from point to point on air thermals. Please read more on page 8.
For the kids, Art Presence and the Jacksonville Community Center are holding summer camps—you can learn more on page 6 and page 11.
And as always, history buffs will find plenty to do during History Saturday in the Cemetery and at the Beekman House and Bank Tours.
For those looking to explore beyond town borders, be sure and catch Graham Farran’s column on page 22 and get some tips on music venues, river rafting, waterfalls, redwoods, the coast and more.
Of course, while exploring town, be sure and support our local restaurants, tasting rooms and retail shops, owned and curated by our neighbors and friends in our Small Town with Big Atmosphere!
