SPECIAL STORYTIME: FIREFIGHTER FUN, Ages 3+, Wednesday, August 6, 10:30am—Come to the library and hear your local firefighters read stories and show you some safety tips. You’ll also get a chance to sit in the fire engine and see the world from a firefighter’s point of view!

RECOGNIZE & PREVENT SCAMS, Ages 18+, Thursday, August 7, 1:30pm—This in-person workshop is for those who are interested in safety online and want to protect themselves from fraudsters and scams. It will build participants’ confidence when they are visiting websites, creating strong passwords, recognizing fraudulent email, and other online security concerns.

A STORY ALOUD, Ages 12+, Thursday, August 7, 5:30pm—With a dash of sound effects and a touch of music, A STORY ALOUD brings together three professional actors to present a staged reading of a classic short story. Hosted by actor and author Barret O’Brien, A STORY ALOUD is a celebration of the twin beauties of riveting writing and public libraries. The event is an hour and admittance is free.

TALKING ABOUT VALUES ACROSS POLITICAL DIVIDES with Lowell Greathouse, Ages 18+, Saturday, August 9, 2pm—We live in a contentious political world, and it’s difficult to talk about our deepest values and beliefs in safe, civil, and respectful ways. How can we learn to share our values in ways that bring us together rather than push us further apart? Oregon Humanities’ Conversation Project invites you to participate in an open, public session facilitated by Lowell Greathouse, a retired United Methodist minister who served congregations in rural, suburban, and urban settings in Oregon, Idaho, and England.

CHAIR-BASED YOGA FOR AGING WELL with Lori Sours, Ages 18+, Tuesdays, August 12 and 26, 11am—Lori Taft Sours now offers free, bi-monthly chair-based yoga classes at the Jacksonville Library! Chair yoga is a wonderful way to safely move your body, nurture your nervous system, and support skillful aging. These slow, mindful chair-based yoga classes include seated movement, optional standing poses, conscious breathing, and guided relaxation.

LOVE WHERE YOU LIVE, DEFEND WHAT YOU LOVE with the Klamath-Siskiyou Wildlands Center, Ages 18+, Thursday, August 14, 5pm—Our region is a biodiversity hotspot. In this program we’ll dig into details about the region’s unique nature, highlight some of our favorite spots on public lands, and talk about how folks can get engaged with local advocacy of the region.

FRIENDS OF THE ANIMALS FAMILY DAY, Ages 5+, Saturday, August 16, 12:30pm—Join the Friends of the Animals for an afternoon of puppies, kittens, workshops, and crafts. This two-hour event will cover topics such as learning dogs’ and cats’ body language, health and welfare suggestions for successful pet ownership, and resources for spay and neuter clinics. We’ll show you how to create snuggly blankets for dogs and cats and so much more!

MEDICARE EXPLAINED, Ages 18+, Thursday, August 21, 4pm—This presentation will provide attendees with an overview of the basics of the Medicare program. Topics include: Medicare Parts A and B; Medicare Advantage vs. Medigap; the prescription drug plan (Part D); annual reevaluation of plans; tips for finding a provider; coverage limitations or exclusions; and local resources for assistance.

EMBRACE YOUR INNER WILD: MUSIC AND MOVEMENT with Laurie Finear, Ages 8+, Saturday, August 23, 2pm—This class combines singing, rhythm, movement and sign language. Get ready to sing beloved songs from around the world and make music together.

NO STRINGS ATTACHED BOOK CLUB, Ages 18+, Thursday, August 28, 3pm—Join us to discuss the different books we’re reading—recent reads, old favorites, or anything in-between. No required reading, just read what you love, then share with the group!
