I sat and watched

the gigglemug people bustling by

vendors waiting tentatively with tables of luscious fruits

children dancing as a band played on my front steps

so much has changed,

I watched

as my bricks went from red to rust

as buggies turned to cars

as the gold left the ground

as the rush slowed and young eyes grew old

eight generations come and go,

building and changing all that I knew

bright new ideas come to me with

eyes eager to present new plans

often turned away by the daddles of those

that have spent more time here

but none, longer than me

I watched

as this town build from dust

and I will watch

until I am nothing but rust
