Jacksonville Review – July 2025 Issue
CALLING ALL vacation rental hosts, business owners and fans of local products!—Close your eyes and imagine one of your favorite travel memories. Was it unwrapping an Egg McMuffin at McDonald’s in Anytown, USA? Scrimmaging for a Frappuccino at Starbucks? Bedding down at a Motel 6 along Interstate 5? I doubt it. Chances are, it was a time when you felt the distinct sense of place—or, to borrow a French wine term—a sense of “terroir.”
Terroir: All of the variables that imbue an experience or product with a distinct sense of place. Loosely applied, it’s the way a poblano pepper might invoke the heat of Mexico. Or the way Peruvian flute music seems to contain in its very sound, the mountainous acoustics of the Andes.
On July 24th, Wander Applegate will be celebrating the Applegate Valley’s own terroir at “A Place-Inspired Space” event at the Applegate’s Yale Creek Ranch, from 5:30-8pm. The event is funded by a grant from Travel Southern Oregon.
Yale Creek Ranch is a glamping and event venue tucked up in the Little Applegate. The Ranch’s “Shiny Barn” will be staged with Applegate-made products of all kinds—along with hiking maps and brochures.
Imagine: A kitchen stocked with local wines and Oshala Farm bedtime tea. A bathroom featuring soap from the English Lavender Farm and bookshelves lined with books by local authors. For breakfast? A Pennington Farms Tayberry turnover at the breakfast table.
Discounts will be available for hosts and attendees who want to purchase the products in bulk to stock their home, rental or business for the season.
The goal of the event? To inspire our local vacation rental hosts to create a sense of place by featuring local goods and information in their accommodations. The event will also feature presentations with tips on how to sync with the latest trends in tourism.
This is great opportunity to explore Yale Creek Ranch! There will be live music by Conrad, nibbles and wine available for purchase. Please RSVP at wander@agreaterapplegate.org.
