Jacksonville Review – July 2025 Issue

THE JACKSONVILLE FIRE DEPARTMENT has bolstered its firefighting capabilities with the recent acquisition of a new Type 3 wildland fire engine, provided by the Oregon State Fire Marshal (OSFM) as part of the state’s Engine Program. This initiative, funded through Oregon’s 2021 Senate Bill 762, aims to enhance wildfire response across the state by distributing modern firefighting apparatus to local agencies.

The new engine is designed to improve the department’s effectiveness in combating wildfires, particularly in challenging terrains and wildland-urban interface areas. Equipped with advanced features suitable for both wildland and urban firefighting, the engine will serve as a critical asset during the fire season.

Jacksonville Fire Department, established in 1883, has a long-standing history of serving the community. The addition of this engine signifies a continued commitment to protecting lives and property in Jacksonville and surrounding areas.

The OSFM Engine Program has distributed 76 new fire engines, brush rigs, and tactical water tenders to agencies across Oregon, including other fire departments in the Rogue Valley. These efforts are part of the broader “Response Ready Oregon” initiative, which seeks to modernize and strengthen the state’s wildfire response infrastructure.
