My View – July 2025
LOCALS KNOW that one of the greatest pleasures in life is calling Jacksonville home. Nested at the edge of the Rogue Valley, our little town manages to strike a rare and beautiful balance—steeped in history yet vibrantly alive with culture, creativity, and community. Our town may be small in geographical size, but it is rich in spirit. Step outside any given evening and you might be greeted by the sounds of live music drifting through town—from the patio of a local tasting room or the hillside at Britt Gardens. Music brings us together here, just as it has for generations.
Dining in Jacksonville is also an experience all its own. Whether you’re craving an artfully prepared farm-to-table meal or a casual bite on a shaded deck, our local restaurants, coffee shops and cafes deliver a culinary experience that rivals the big cities—served with small-town warmth and charm. Our family-owned and operated shops are equally special. With no big box stores here, just one-of-a-kind boutiques, each storefront tells its own unique story, and every shopkeeper is a neighbor and friend.
Beyond the storefronts, adventure awaits the outdoor lover on our world-class trail system—meandering paths through the Jacksonville Woodlands and Forest Park that offer peace, exercise, and a front-row seat to nature’s beauty. For those drawn to the stories of our past, our narrated trolley tours and guided history walks bring Jacksonville’s Gold Rush heritage to life in a way no textbook ever could.
Creativity thrives here too. The Art Presence Art Center showcases rotating exhibits, hosts local artists, and offers workshops that enrich the soul and stimulate the imagination. Our Community Center is a hub of year-round activity—from yoga to lectures to social events that remind us we are stronger together—something we all need in these challenging times more than ever.
And let’s not forget the seasonal joys—the blooming Southern Oregon Lavender Trail events that color our summer days, or the tasting rooms and wineries right in town that invite us to toast life’s small pleasures with friends old and new.
Living in Jacksonville is a daily reminder that it’s a rich life in Our Small Town with Big Atmosphere.
