Focus on the Farm – November 2021

For many, the wreath is a symbol of eternity, an unending circle of life, growth, and everlasting life. Traditionally, we post wreaths on our front doors as an invitation to family and friends to join in our holiday festivities. This year, as in years past, SOHS Hanley Farm invites you to make your own, personalized wreath at the farm. You’ll find everything you need to make your wreath in the wreath-making kit for purchase at the farm—a base of grapevines or fruitwood, greens, cones, berries and wire. For that “added touch,” we suggest you bring your own ribbons, ornaments and trimmings. Let your personality and holiday cheer shine through your wreath, designed and created by you at Hanley Farm!

On Saturday, November 27, from 11am to 4pm, plan to make your wreath at the farm or, if you’d like, purchase a kit and make your wreath at home. Wreath-making kits are $15 for non-SOHS Members, and $10 for SOHS members. Reservations are not required, and you can pay at the gate.

Plus, Santa has replied to our invitation and will drop in and visit with you and your children. Don’t forget to bring your cameras, Santa is very photogenic! So, keep an eye out for him, he’ll be in the big red truck.

We care about you, your friends, and your family’s health and well-being. Volunteers will sanitize work tables and tools between groups, and Covid protocols will be observed. Please wear a mask and practice social distancing.

Windows in Time, November 3, 12pm—The Klamath-Siskiyou Mountains make up the Southwestern-most corner of Oregon and extend into adjacent California. At the November Windows in Time lecture, local historian and archaeologist, Jeff LaLande presents, “Oregon’s Least Known Mountains: The Human & Natural History of the Klamath/Siskiyou Ranges.” Jeff will address the rugged geography of the Klamath-Siskiyou range, as well as past human activities that were once significant in the still-remote terrain.

Windows in Time monthly lunchtime lectures are free, and jointly sponsored by the Southern Oregon Historical Society and Jackson County Library Services. The November presentation takes place remotely, via Zoom; meeting details will be emailed to you when you register. Register at https://jcls.libcal.com/event/7943967.
