This month, March 2015, catch an interesting artistic display of carved wood pieces and some of the tools of the trade in the lobby display cases at the Jacksonville Library. Many of the items featured were carved by Jacksonville carver Harvey Bower.
Just as an artist brings a canvas alive with bold use of colors and hues, Harvey brings blocks of wood alive, transforming them into decorative forms and shapes with skilled turns of a lathe.
Harvey, who lives here in Jacksonville, is a professional wood turner, working from his small, converted garage that was once a dentist’s office. He’s also used his skill with wood tools to help restore his historic-landmark-listed home.
Harvey’s passion and creations grow out of his fascination for wood – the way it feels, the sweet aroma after it’s freshly cut, the warmth and wild beauty of its colors. Stop-by the library now and take a look!
