For it’s annual Winter Program, the Storytelling Guild brings Portland-based Tears of Joy Puppet Theatre to Medford for two performances of The Jungle Book, based on the children’s classic by Rudyard Kipling. As a member of the audience, you will explore the Indian jungle with Mowgli as he tries to answer the question, “To which family do I belong, Monkey, Wolf or Man?” You will come to love his teachers and protectors: Baloo the bear, Bagheera the panther, and Akela the wolf. You will laugh at the hijinks of the monkeys and root for Mowgli as he faces his nemesis: the mighty tiger, Shere Khan.

Admission is FREE TO ALL, but you can support the Storytelling Guild by bringing a new or gently used children’s book to donate. These donations support the Guild’s Pass the Book Program, which every year gives 5,000 to 10,000 books to more than 25 agencies who work with children from newborns to older teens–agencies like Kids Unlimited, Head Start, Juvenile Detention, Community Health Centers, the Children’s Advocacy Center, OnTrack, Dunn House and others. Don’t miss this opportunity to support the Storytelling Guild and treat your own youngsters to a beloved story.

Tears of Joy Theatre is recognized as one of the nation’s outstanding puppet theatres, known internationally for its innovation and excellence. Each year the programs of the theatre serve over 200,000 children and adults. Tears of Joy Theatre has received a Washington State Governor’s Arts Award and a Young Audiences Sunburst Award for its “exemplary commitment to arts in education.” Four of the theatre’s productions have received American puppetry’s highest honor, The Citation of Excellence in the Art of Puppetry from UNIMA-USA.
