BRITT’S MUSIC DIRECTOR PETER BAY TO LEAVE FESTIVAL AFTER 2012 SEASON
Maestro Peter Bay, Music Director and Conductor of the Britt Festival Orchestra, has given notice that 2012 will be his final season with Britt. As per his contract, he is giving the Festival two seasons’ notice to allow for the search process for his successor.
Bay is currently leading the Britt’s 2011 Classical Festival, with the Opening Night Concert this Friday, August 5. Bay is also the Music Director and Conductor of the Austin Symphony Orchestra in Texas.
Britt Director of Performing Arts Angela Warren says, “Peter has had a remarkable tenure here at Britt. It is rare for a Music Director to stay at a Festival for 20 years and we’ve been fortunate to have his strong leadership.”
Next summer, as the Britt Orchestra celebrates its 50th season, Britt will also celebrate Maestro Bay’s 20th. “Peter has brought the orchestra to new levels of artistic achievement and we deeply appreciate all that he has given to Britt and to our community” says Warren.
Britt Festivals invites audiences and artists to celebrate the joy of live performance, the power of community and the magic of the Britt Experience. Through ongoing education and audience development programs, Britt connects audiences to the inspirational power of classical music, and helps new generations of listeners discover the wonder of music and performance. In addition to presenting concerts, Britt Festivals maintains an education program through the Britt Institute. Established in 1985, the Britt Institute hosts a variety of programs including summer camps, workshops, elementary school activities, lectures and “meet the artist” opportunities.
