Two-Thousand Thirteen Turkey Tragedy

Please help get the word out!

Twas a couple of weeks before Christmas and all through the County

Families needing help signed up for some Holiday Bounty.

They try hard all year to make ends meet

But need some extra help for a Christmas dinner feast.

So The Salvation Army calls ACCESS and lays out a plan

For ham, turkey and fixings for 1,300 of our poorest clans.

ACCESS places the order with the Oregon Food Bank

It’s a lot like that list Santa likes to make.

The truck doors swing open and every one cheers

Each year it’s so amazing and some shed a tear.

They unload the stuffing and potatoes to mash

Then everyone helping lets out a great gasp.

They count up the turkeys, they count up the hams

There are not enough and we’re in a bad jam.

They call up the order and look at the list,

A box was not checked, a small detail was missed.

Mistakes do happen but this one is big; we’re not sure what to do,

So we are reaching out for some help and we really need you.

Please dig in your heart, and help if you can,

To buy 500 turkeys and 500 hams.

You can run to the store and pick up one or two

You can drop them off at the Salvation Army and ACCESS too.

You can make a donation and we’ll run to the store

You can do that at the Great Turkey Tragedy at ACCESS dot Org.

Our media friends are helping get out the news

They are trying so hard to avoid even one case of Christmas Blues.

We want to keep our commitment and stick to the plan

And hand out dinners for our most needy clans.

And show once again what a great place we live,

A place where we help each other and are willing to give.

The Holiday order of Hams and Turkeys for The Salvation Army Christmas Assistance Program had a mistake made when ordered. This created an unanticipated shortage for over 1,300 families in Jackson County that have signed up for holiday assistance. The hams and turkeys need to be at The Salvation Army or ACCESS no later than December 16th for immediate packing into the assistance boxes. Cash donations also accepted at both locations and online at access.org.
