About the Region
Southern Oregon is now one of the most diverse growing regions in the world. The rugged mountain valleys and diverse climates of southern Oregon allow for a wide variety of intensely flavored wine grapes to be grown. In cooler regions, such as the Umpqua Valley, varietals include Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, and others. Warm weather varietals thrive in the sunnier climates of the Applegate and Rogue Valleys, and include Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc,
Viognier, and others.

Known for its world-class culture, premier wine and outdoor adventure, Southern Oregon became an official American Viticultural Area (AVA) in 2004. Now one of the fastest growing wine regions in the country, the Southern Oregon AVA has emerged from 23 wineries just six years ago to more than 70 wineries today.

About the Southern Oregon Winery Association
