The Southern Oregon Chinese Cultural Association (SOCCA) was formed in 2006 and is dedicated to facilitating awareness, understanding, and appreciation of Chinese culture and history. Southern Oregon, and specifically, Jacksonville, has a strong historical relationship with Chinese immigrants. These immigrants played an important role in the economic and cultural development of the region.

SOCCA maintains that historical memory by organizing and managing an annual celebration of the Chinese Lunar New Year in Jacksonville. Every year, SOCCA sponsors a parade which features traditional Chinese Lion Dancers, music, and costumes and which also showcases local community and school groups. These groups represent diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds and traditions.

The day is full of talks and demonstrations that inform and educate on topics ranging from Chinese art, music, history, medicines, martial arts, and cooking, with special activities for children. There is a main performance event which has featured experts in kung Fu, Chinese opera, Chinese acrobatics, traditional costume, puppetry, and Tai chi.

The entire event is made possible because of the generous financial support of regional businesses, arts organizations and educational institutions. Volunteer assistance and media sponsorship also contribute to making the event a success. At this time, planning for the Year of the Pig celebration on February 9, 2019 is underway.
