Repertory-Singers_018Ashland, Oregon – The Southern Oregon Repertory Singers, under the direction of Dr. Paul French, celebrate the birth of Mozart with the final performance of their annual Mozart Birthday Bash on Sunday, February 9, 2013 at 3:00 pm, at the SOU Music Recital Hall, S. Mountain Avenue in Ashland.

Soloist and ensembles as well as the full chorus will perform selections from the Repertoire of both Mozart and Brahms. Mozart’s impressive Coronation Mass will be featured.

Special guest is organist Dr. Margaret Evans who will perform Brahms “Prelude and Fugue in A Minor”. Dr. Evans is professor emerita of Music and University Organist at Southern Oregon University and music director at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Medford. A veteran of many organ recitals throughout the United States, Dr. Evans has performed at regional conventions of the American Guild of Organists and the Summer Organ Festival in Balboa Park, San Diego. She also served as convention coordinator for the northwest regional convention of the American Guild of Organists held in Southern Oregon in 1997. Dr. Evans holds degrees from Chatham College, the University of Michigan, and the Eastman School of Music. She also earned the Performer’s Certificate in Organ from Eastman.

Southern Oregon Repertory Singers’ exceptional soloists in both solo and operatic repertoire will be featured as well in this concert. Tenor Colin Campbell will perform “Un aura amorosa” and Soprano Karli Kruguer will perform “Come scoglio” both from Così Fan Tutte. Baritone, Don Matthews will sing Mozart’s concert aria “Cosi dunque tradisci”. Repertory Singers Scholarship recipient Daniel Gibbs, baritone will sing “Ich wandte mich und sahe an alle” from The Four Serious Songs of Johannes Brahms. In a long-standing tradition, Herr Mozart, played by Geoffrey Riley, will host the annual celebration, complete with a surprise or two. Geoffrey Riley is well known to the Rogue Valley as the host of the Jefferson Exchange for JPR Radio as well as acting on the stages of many local theatres in Southern Oregon over the last twenty years. Join us in thanking actor and JPR Radio Host, Geoffrey Riley for many years of portraying Mozart as we sing him happy birthday to him one last time.

A free Pre-Concert Lecture by Ed Wight is offered one hour prior to the performance.
