All classes begin at 10:00am and are located at the nursery unless indicated otherwise. Space is limited so please be sure to register on our website: www.roguevalleynursery.com/class. A minimum of 8 attendees is needed for a class, otherwise the class may be canceled. Classes happen rain or shine. During classes there will also be a sandbox for kids, coffee, and refreshments (children are still under parents supervision). Shooting Star Nursery is located at 3223 Taylor Road, Central Point.

September 9 & 16, 10:00-11:30am—Of Course You Can!—Come join us as we walk through the basics and benefits of canning & preserving the bounty of your produce. Ginger Johnson will cover fundamental principles of canning and equipment at the first class, highlighting some excellent resources for every level of canner. At the second class, she’ll walk through an actual demo, canning a surprise recipe for attendees. As a Master Preserver, life-long gardener and cook, she’s a lively presenter and believes that everyone, at every age, can learn to can and gain happiness and satisfaction with canning skills. Bring your questions and good humor. Canning 101 is September 9th, Canning 201 is September 16th. Registration $35 for one class or $60 for 2 classes, includes a new ball jar with a special canning recipe.

September 23, 10:00am—Planting a Shade Garden—Kayla will show you how to select plants for shade in the Rogue Valley with a focus on textures and shape. Learn what does well under trees, in dry shade, and containers, as well as some deer-resistant examples. Being trained as a landscape architect in shadier Eugene and having a landscape maintenance business in the Rogue Valley as well as a valued member of the Shooting Star Nursery team, Kayla is well-suited to help make your shade garden more interesting, whether you are after a woodland look or Asian theme. September 28, 6:00-7:00pm at N. Mountain Nature Center, Ashland—Is a Firewise & Deer Resistant Landscape Possible? Yes!—It has become an increasing concern to use Firewise plants in the Rogue Valley. Come learn about best planting and maintenance practices as well as deer-resistant and firewise plant options. Registration $18.
