Hello Everybody…

Well… here is the information on the next Movie night at Old City Hall.  The movie is Make Way For Tomorrow.  I chose this film because, though having a sad story, it is a brilliant piece of film making.  Make Way For Tomorrow, is a generational story concerning the plight of an aged couple and the problems their children have with their own lives.  It is altogether astounding that this was made in the 1930s when people only wanted to see movies that would take their mind off their own troubles.  It is a film that I do not believe anyone in Hollywood would touch with a ten foot pole even today.

Make Way For Tomorrow is a film about real life with the added attraction of some very great acting by some of the finest character actors to ever grace the silver screen.  You already saw one of them, Victor Moore in It Happened On Fifth Avenue, last Christmas.  Though a comedic actor, here he plays a dramatic role with the proper reserve and dignity.

There are NO stars in this show.

Make Way For Tomorrow is the work of one of the greatest director’s to come out of the studio system… Leo McCary.  In fact he won the Oscar for another film in the same year he produced and directed this.  When asked, he always said this was his greatest film.

I hope you’re able to attend this one.

Make Way For Tomorrow will screen on Friday night, May 20th at 7 PM.  We also have a new Tom and Jerry cartoon for this show.

See you at the movies,
Paul Becker
