In a solid victory, the “Rogue Pack” Envirothon Team from Logos Public Charter School in Medford earned the highest scores in three of six testing categories, winning first place honors overall at the 23rd annual Oregon State Envirothon held at the Oregon Garden in Silverton, on Friday, May 3. The science team won testing stations in Wildlife Ecology, Agricultural Technology as well as the current issue, Project Presentation. High school students representing 33 teams from around the state participated in this year’s event.

This big win earns the team the right to represent the State of Oregon in the largest North American Environmental Science Competition, held this year in Raleigh, North Carolina during the week of July 28.

The North American Envirothon is an annual competition that reaches over 500,000 students. The State and North American events test students’ creative, critical-thinking, and team-building skills in environmental science and natural resource management. Students demonstrate mastery by rotating through five outdoor eco-stations: Soils/Land Use, Aquatic Ecology, Forest Ecology, Wildlife Ecology, and a current environmental issue (the 2019 topic is Agricultural Technology; Feeding the World).

The Logos Public Charter School Envirothon Team has been devoting the past year to study and practice while working collaboratively with local community experts to develop practical and theoretical knowledge of ecology. The team is inviting corporate, nonprofit and individual sponsors to provide support for travel to the competition.

The Logos Envirothon Team was the first Southern Oregon team to win the state competition in 2015, winning again in 2017 and now this year’s team has done it again, demonstrating their passion and dedication to the study of our natural resources.

“Competing in the Envirothon has without a doubt been one of the most valuable experiences of my high school education,” says returning NCF team member, Hannah Von Holle.
