JACKSONVILLE ELEMENTARY PLAYGROUND PROJECT
Project Playground – you did it and all we can say is GREAT JOB to the community for stepping-up with the money, sweat and labor to replace the playground equipment at Jacksonville Elementary School. (In late 2011, it was deemed unsafe by the school district and removed in early 2012.)
Thanks to Project Playground leader Sandy Metwally who organized the mammoth-sized volunteer team, Jacksonville’s kids have an awesome new playground that’s better than ever!
The $170,000 project was funded with $65,000 in grants and $105,000 in in-kind donations and from fundraisers including: $18,000 from school families, $5,000 from community members, $7,500 from the spaghetti feed, $1,500 from the Ray’s Market recycling program, $1,200 from Amy’s Kitchen pizza sales, $500 from popcorn sales, $250 from a penny drive and $10 from a handmade jewelry sale!
Special thanks to Andy Batzer of Batzer Construction for volunteering to be the Head Contractor, to the Thai House Restaurant, Frau Kemmling Schoolhouse Brewhaus, Good Bean Coffee and Mustard Seed Restaurant for providing food and beverages, and to Niedermeyer Excavation, Thornton Engineering, Premier Tech Contracting, Pacific Survey Supply, Bigham Knoll Group LLC, Knife River, Willamette Graystone, Landers Cabinets and Airport Chevrolet Buick GMC Cadillac for corporate financial assistance and in-kind donations.
