HISTORY SATURDAY IN THE CEMETERY

Join the Friends of Jacksonville’s Historic Cemetery for the next History Saturday tour on Saturday, October 8 when we will visit the two Sections of Red Men, the Improved and Independent Orders. Learn a little history of these fraternal organizations and then tour both Sections and visit some of the grave sites of those resting under the Madrones.

The tour departs at 10:00am from the Sextons Tool House where your Docents will meet you and guide you up to the Red Men Sections of the cemetery.

Dress for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes. Tour is free and donations are always appreciated and help support restoration and educational projects.

Dirk Siedlecki Teaches at History Saturday

History Saturdays were started this year and have been very successful. They provide wonderful opportunities to learn about the different styles of headstones and monuments, what they are made of, what the various symbols represent and what Victorian Mourning Customs called for. Hear some of the stories of those who rest in the cemetery and what life must have been like in early Jacksonville.
