Hello everyone…  Here is the coming attraction for February 2016… and what an attraction it is.  It’s certainly one our Lucille Ball fans will want to see, though it’s not a comedy.  The film is Lured, and it also stars George Sanders, Sir Cedric Hardwicke, Boris Karloff, George Zucco, Alan Mowbray, Robert Coote, and Alan Napier… all British actors.  The only other American actor besides Lucy is the versatile Charles Coburn.  So this is definitely a British flavored film.

The story is about a serial killer in London who is murdering young women whom he meets through the personal columns of newspapers.  He announces each of his murders in advance to the police by sending them a cryptic poem.  Somewhat reminiscent of The Mystery of Mr X which we ran last September, this film distinguishes itself with its larger and talented cast, not the least of which is Lucille Ball.  In Lured she leaves her zany television persona behind and embraces her role wherein she becomes bait for the killer, very beautiful bait.  Here, Lucy drops her clowns mask and lets her natural beauty shine, and proves she could hold her own in any Hollywood beauty parade.

Lured is another one of those films which is not available either at TCM or at Netflix.  There are a few used copies available at very high asking prices.

In addition, I’ll be talking about Lucy and some facets of her career that are not generally known or written about.  She was a very close friend of Ginger’s… so much so that Ginger bought the house across the street from Lucy for her personal residence.

Lured will screen on Friday, Feb 12th, 2016 at 7 P.M. We’ll also be running an Oscar winning Tom and Jerry cartoon, as well as one of John Nesbitt’s Passing Parade shorts which I think you’ll find interesting.  I recommend that you come early as the seats may go fast on this one.

See you at the movies.
